Tonight's Meeting: March 15, 2016

At tonight's meeting we discussed the first book selected at the opening of this club, which was:

Buy it on Amazon

The discussion was lively and we touched on many subjects including:
  • How brain chemistry encourages group interaction
  • The fact that this particular book is a good introduction to the general concept of mindfulness, includes useful descriptions, and is a great guide for those beginning a meditation practice
  • The fact that contentedness is emphasized, and that relationships are essential for us to thrive

Next Book Selection:

For our next book we have decided to read "Waking Up: A Guide to Spirituality without Religion" by Sam Harris
https://www.samharris.org/waking-up
We will decide the discussion date for "Waking Up" based on everyone's reading speed.  Until then we will continue to meet weekly, Tuesdays at 9:00pm to discuss an article chosen each week.

 Next week's meeting: Tuesday March 22, 2016

At next week's meeting we will be discussing the article titled "Mindfulness Training Improves Working Memory Capacity and GRE Performance While Reducing Mind Wandering," documenting a study done at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Citation information for this article is as follows:

Mrazek, M. D., Franklin, M. S., Phillips, D. T., Baird, B., & Schooler, J. W. (2013, March 28). Mindfulness training improves working memory capacity and GRE performance while reducing mind wandering. Retrieved March 15, 2016. doi:10.1177/0956797612459659

If anyone should experience difficulty in accessing the article please email me directly and I will be happy to assist you.

Thank you very much for reading, and try to remember as you go through your week that, as Tara Brach would say, "this is it."
